Bees make shape of cross outside cathedral

It was a holy sight as a swarm of bees congregated outside a cathedral - in the shape of a cross.

Bees at Wells Cathedral

Beekeeper Rob Handy, 25, couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the insects outside Wells Cathedral, Somerset last week.

Mr Handy was just passing when he realised the bees had made the holy sign - in the most "appropriate" place.

He said how people passing had not even realised that a post outside the cathedral was covered in bees due to them being "very calm".

He said: "It was so appropriate that the swarm had formed a cross. They were very calm and lady sitting on a nearby bench did not even know they were there.

"I assume that someone had been keeping bees nearby and for whatever reason were looking for a new home."

Mr Handy stated this wasn't his first holy encounter with bees as he also looks after three hives formerly owned by a vicar who moved.
